Classic Chicken Gyros Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita breads
- 1 cup tzatziki sauce
- 1 cup sliced cucumbers
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
1. Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.
2. In a bowl, mix the olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Toss the chicken thighs in the mixture until well coated.
3. Grill the chicken for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before slicing it into strips.
4. Warm the pita breads on the grill or in the oven.
5. To assemble, spread tzatziki sauce on each pita. Top with sliced chicken, cucumbers, tomatoes, and red onion.
6. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve.
